st. vincent de paul society

Inspired by Gospel values and in the tradition of its patron saint, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) leads people to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are in need and suffering. Members of SVdP are keenly aware that poverty, suffering and loneliness are present for many in our community. We strive to not only meet the immediate needs of those we serve, but also seek to collaborate with others to address poverty's causes. If you are in need of assistance, please call the Catholic Charities SVdP helpline at 309-677-7696 to get the process started. Their hours are Monday - Thursday, 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM; please do not leave a voicemail message.

Home Visit Teams
Our teams visit people in their homes to better understand each situation. We provide referrals to community resources, pray with the family, and often are able to provide direct assistance with food, clothing, furniture, household expenses, utility expenses, and a variety of other basic items.

Special Project Teams
There are a number of SVdP sponsored special projects that occur throughout the year. Members of these teams pick and choose which project they are able to assist with:

  • Christmas & Easter Parish Food Drives
(MaryBeth Steinkoenig & Nicole Baer, Coordinators)

  • Community Cupboard (Janet Rendleman, Coordinator)

  • Community Harvest Food Pantry/Special Projects (Various Coordinators)

  • Community Harvest/Saturday Volunteers
    (Diane Matheson, Coordinator)

  • Enough Stuff Thrift Shop (Sue Rapp, Coordinator)

  • Sofia’s Kitchen
    (Kay Schmitz, Coordinator)

  • Southside Soup Kitchen
    (Andy & Cindy Honegger, Coordinators)

  • Third Sunday Collection
    (Alice Barbour, Coordinator)

  • We Care Food Pantry
    (Jean Baile, Coordinator)

Get Involved
There is tremendous need in our local community, so we are always seeking more team members to help with home visits and special projects. Everyone is invited to attend our meetings that are held on the second Tuesday of each month beginning at 6:30 PM. We would love to have you join us! You may also send an email to svdp.61550@gmail.com if you are looking for more information about SVdP.
