St. Vincent de Paul Society

" ... I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink,

I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me ...

Truly I say to you, as you did this to one of the least of my brethren,

you did it to me."

[Matthew 25:34-40]

Inspired by Gospel values and in the tradition of its patron saint, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) leads people to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are in need and suffering. Members of SVdP are keenly aware that poverty, suffering and loneliness are present for many in our community. We strive to not only meet the immediate needs of those we serve, but also seek to collaborate with others to address poverty's causes. If you are in need of assistance, please call the Catholic Charities SVdP helpline at 309-677-7696 to get the process started.

Our teams visit people in their homes to better understand each situation. We provide referrals to community resources, pray with the family, and often are able to provide direct assistance with food, clothing, furniture, household expenses, utility expenses, and a variety of other basic items.

There are a number SVdP sponsored special projects that occur throughout the year. Members of these teams pick and choose which project they are able to assist with:

Christmas & Easter Parish Food Drives (MaryBeth Steinkoenig & Nicole Baer, Coordinators)

Community Harvest Food Pantry/Special Projects (Various Coordinators)

Community Harvest/Saturday Volunteers (Diane Matheson, Coordinator)

Sofia’s Kitchen (Kay Schmitz, Coordinator)

Southside Soup Kitchen (Julie Moza, Coordinator)

Third Sunday Collection (Alice Barbour, Coordinator)

We Care Food Pantry (Jean Baile, Coordinator)

There is tremendous need in our local community, so we are always seeking more team members to help with home visits and special projects. Everyone is invited to attend our meetings which are held on the second Tuesday of each month beginning at 6:30 PM. We would love to have you join us! You may also send an email to if you are looking for more information about SVdP.

The ministry of SVdP sincerely appreciates any donation, large or small. We do not receive any government, diocesan, or national funding and we rely mostly on donations from the parish. If you would like to make a donation to SVdP, you may do this by any of the following ways:

On-line Giving - Select the "Giving" tab at the top of this page and fill out information on form.

SVdP Monthly Envelope - Drop the envelope in the collection basket or at the parish office.

Third Sunday Collection - On the third Sunday of most months, SVdP members collect donations after all weekend Masses.
